John and I met the day my granddaughter was born June 10, 1989. Since we are "mature" folks and didn't have forever for an engagement, our first wedding took place on October 7, 1989 in Christ Episcopal Church in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. The church was a small exquisite sandstone church built as a chapel for Cecil B. de Mille when he lived here many years ago. Who would have believed I would fall in love and marry my soul mate the year I became a grandmother!

After we were married for 5 years, my daughter told me about a couple who had been married 33 years and had been married 33 times in a different state each time.  When I got off the phone and told John about it he suddenly knelt before me and said   " Would you marry me again, this time in Greece?"   Most of John's family still lives in Greece and had not attended the first wedding.   Our honeymoon had been to Greece so I met his family but both of us love a celebration and a party.  My sister-in-law Zoe arranged many of the details on the Greek side.

We were married again in the tiny church of St. Profitylias AGIOS PRPROFITYLIAS  high on a hill overlooking Athens in view of the Acropolis.  We had a lovely reception with his friends and family in a beautiful restaurant with Greek dancing and breaking of dishes.

The ceremony itself was quite different then our USA wedding.   My first concern was to have my sister-in-law teach me what I had to say in Greek.   I was surprised to find the bride and groom say nothing.  The entire ceremony was performed by a wonderful Greek Orthodox priest who ran all over Athens with us to register all the necessary paperwork.  Traditional rice is thrown at the bride and groom but this is done inside the church.  The priest then led us in a circle three times in the "Dance of Mystery".  Walking on the marble floor covered with rice was quite a challenge!

And we lived happily ever after!
